Be Bear Aware!
November 22, 2019Exercise, just saying the word receives a collective groan from some, but it’s an important part of staying healthy. If you’ve just moved to town, or are looking for some new ways to stay fit, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best ways to do so in West Kelowna. While we’ve focused mainly on facilities, there are also a few great locations you can go for free to get exercise. . .
West Kelowna Gyms
Gyms: the classic way to work out and West Kelowna offers several great ones. Gravity Fitness Centre is a great place to build muscles and lose weight. It’s an especially great place to go if you want to work out, but need someone to watch your kids. The Centre offers babysitting services for up to ninety minutes while you pump iron. Their membership rate also includes being able to join any fitness class so you can choose if you want to focus on solo growth with free weights or join a class.
Another great facility is Bodyshop Fitness and Nutrition Centre. If you want to focus on yourself and train to become the very best, or focus on specific training for sports, this is an awesome place to do so. Coaching there is all-encompassing from exercises and techniques to nutrition and wellness to help trainees achieve their goals.
Swimming
Another great activity, swimming has plenty of great health benefits. For example, it’s excellent for building cardiovascular fitness, endurance, but isn’t hard on your body since it’s a low-impact activity. So where can you go swimming? Just look over to Kelowna and you’ll see one of the best locations (at least while the weather is warm): Okanagan Lake. On top of that, there are numerous beaches in West Kelowna to head to for swimming to get your exercise in. Of course, the lake isn’t the nicest (or even best idea) to swim in the Winter, but you can keep your swim streak going in the John Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre. Aside from the huge swimming space in the facility, you’re also able to relax after a long workout in the hot tubs or steam rooms.
Hiking and Biking
West Kelowna, and especially near some of the newer developments in Tallus Ridge, has many trails lining the area. This means there are plenty of great opportunities for hiking and biking. Some of the best trails are Rose Valley with its picturesque views and one of the top hikes in Kelowna: City on the Edge of Forever. If you’re looking for something central to enjoy, Mount Boucherie also has some amazing sights along its trails.
Hopefully, we’ve given you a place to start your fitness journey in West Kelowna. The city has a plethora of options for working out, staying active, and encouraging healthy living. It’s just a matter of being consistent and choosing what works best for you.
